The 25 X 150 size are mold-made test tubes with 1.5 M.M. side
walls. We use them frequently at Gem Shows, as they hold approximately
40 grams of smaller opal rough. They can also be cut shorter,
using a fine trim saw blade, for holding smaller specimen pieces.
All
other domes, except the 48 X 68 and 48 X 90, are individually handmade,
using the torch and lathe method with "Pyrex©" type
tubing. These domes have sturdy 2 M.M. thick side walls and smooth
fire-polished rims.
The
48 X 68 and 48 X 90 domes are made in molds, requiring a higher
volume order on our part, which allows for a lower price to you.
These have slightly thinner side walls and a smooth built-up rim
for added strength. Order these for the greatest value.
All
domes are relatively fragile, being made of glass, but with careful
handling can last indefinitely. Here are some tips to keep in mind
when handling domes.
If
you do break a dome, save the stopper and contact us to order replacement
glass, at a discounted replacement rate.
We
are very careful when packing domes for shipment, with only one
reported broken dome out of hundreds shipped. We will replace domes
broken in shipment, but do need the remnants shipped back to us,
at our expense, to enter a freight insurance claim.
