Nevada Opal - Rare Material!

**********************************************************
_________________________________________________________
*** The Virgin Valley Opals are wood replacements, created in Miocene times...
It seems that large volumes of silica rich volcanic ash blanketed a lake;
Silica from the ash filtered down, and replaced driftwood which had gathered
on the lake shores, with some of it becoming opal; with some having the
brightest color play of any opal on the planet!
Most of this opal has a higher molecular water content than the Australian opals,
and will crack when dried. A small percentage is stable however.....
_________________________________________________________

* Virgin Valley Nevada Opal is almost all wood that has been replaced by opal.

* Most Virgin Valley Opals contain a high percentage of water in their structure,
and they often crack or craze when dried; these types are best stored and
displayed in water.

* When the opal is dispersed in the wood, they can often be dried and polished.

* Virgin Valley Opal is quite rare in dry, stable form...
